Popularly called as MYLAPORE, ThiruMyalai is one of the greatest Shaivaite temple ( Temple of Lord Shiva). There are many legends associated with this temple.


1. Goddess Parvati woeshipped Shiva in the form of peacock, so this place is called Mylapore(Mayil in Tamil means peacock).

2. Gnanasambandar brought back Poombavai to life from bones and ashes by singing song on Lord Shiva.

3. A grand festival is conducted every year to commemerate this popularly called as Arupathu Moovar Thiruvizha , is a festival to honour the 63 ardent devotees of Shiva.


This blog is the photos taken during that festival and other rituals of this great temple. Please view the grandly decorted , bejwelled Lord and Goddess ( Pancha Murtis) taken in procession daily in the morning and evening on different vahanama (mounts). என்று அழைக்கப்படும் திருமயிலை திருத்தலம் தொண்டை மண்டலத்தின் தேவாரப் பாடல் பெற்ற தலம். அம்மை பார்வதி மயிலுருவாய் புன்னை வனத்தில் சிவலிங்க பூஜை செய்து, பூஜையின் மகத்துவத்தை உணர்த்திய தலம். அம்மையின் ஞானப்பாலுண்ட ஆளுடையபிள்ளை திருஞான சம்பந்தர் என்பை பெண்ணாக்கிய தலம்.

வருடம் முழுவதும் திருவிழாக்கள் நடைபெறும் தலம். இத்தலத்தின் அறுபத்து மூவர் திருவிழா மிகவும் சிறப்பு வாய்ந்தது. இத்தலத்தின் சிறப்பையும், அந்த பங்குனிப் பெருவிழாவின் போது " காணக் கண் கோடி வேண்டும் கபாலியின் பவனி " என்று பாபநாசம் சிவன் பாடிய திருமயிலை கபாலீச்சுரத்தின் பஞ்ச மூர்த்திகளின் அலங்கார பவனியையும், மற்ற திருவிழாக்களின் புகைப்படங்களின் தொகுப்பே இந்த இணையத் தலம். ஐயனின் தரிசனம் கண்டு அருள் பெற வேண்டுகிறேன்.
